Christian Union meetings can seem quite strange, particularly if you've never been before. So here's a quick explanation of some of the things we do:

Why do we sing?

Throughout the Bible God's people praise Him in song, we sing to praise our God, our Maker, and we also sing to encourage one another with the truths that the songs contain.

Why do we pray?

We believe that we have a God who is personal and who cares about His world, we believe that he hears our prayers and will answer them. We pray for our world, our university and for one another. We are completely dependant on God and His goodness to us, so we pray to Him.

Why do we listen to speakers?

At most meetings we are addressed by guest speakers, these are usually church workers from the churches in the Brighton area. They will help us to understand a particular theme or passage from the Bible. We believe that the words of the Bible are inspired by God, so we want to hear Him speak through it, so that we can learn, and grow and be encouraged.

Isn't this just a church?

For lots of reasons Christian Union isn't a church, so it's important to find a good local church to be a part of, but singing, praying and studying the Bible is just what Christians do when they gather together... not to mention drinking tea, chatting and generally having fun!

Prayer Meetings

This Bible says that God gives his favour to the humble (James 4:6). As we come to God in prayer we acknowledge our utter dependence on him, we humble ourselves. Prayer is a crucial for everything we do as a CU, without the Spirit of God the events we put on and the words we speak will achieve little, but through God working in people's hearts we shall see lives transformed. While prayer as individuals is very important as Christians, it is also important to pray together and for each other. So why not join us for prayer...
